The Eric Hoffer Award for Short Prose and Books

Each year, Writers' Notes facilitates awards for short prose and independent books. In 2007, Writers' Notes renamed this contest to The Eric Hoffer Award, with permission from the Eric Hoffer estate. Our goal is to maintain the independent spirit of one of America's greatest freethinkers and philosophers by elevating outstanding short prose (i.e. fiction and creative nonfiction of less than 10,000 words) and independent books (i.e. titles from small and academic presses, including self-published books). The results are published in the annual anthology, Best New Writing. Note: Previous winners of the Writers' Notes award are now listed on The Eric Hoffer Award site.
