
Lardiere's School Record Highlights Men's Swimming's Effort at NCAA Championships

Junior Andrew Lardiere set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle during the preliminaries and eventually finished seventh nationally to help highlight New York University's performance Friday at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at Miami University in Oxford, OH.
Overall, the Violets are ranked ninth with 89 points. Heading into Saturday's third and final day of action at the NCAA Championships, NYU has turned in seven All-American performances (2 top-eight, 5 top-16/Honorable Mention) and has eclipsed four school records.
Lardiere was NYU's lone record-breaking performer Friday, posting a school-record time of 1:39.81 in the 200 freestyle preliminaries before finishing seventh in the 200 freestyle in 1:40.07 to gain All-America honors. The junior's time in the prelims shattered his previous standard of 1:40.89 set in 2007.
Lardiere also swam the anchor leg on the 200-yard medley relay, as the Violets' quartet took 11th and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors after finishing in 1:34.00. Seniors Matthew Ferreira, Brad Thornton and Shaughn Keating also contributed. NYU raced to a time of 1:33.70 in the preliminaries earlier Friday.
The quartet of sophomore Eric Pcholinski, Thornton, junior Paul Hogan and Lardiere also captured Honorable Mention acclaim after placing 12th in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 6:52.00.
"Andrew Lardiere is having an outstanding meet," NYU head coach Bob Sorensen said. "He's set two new individual records. He's the first NYU swimmer to break 20 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 1:40 in the 200 freestyle. We can only hope for another solid performance from him tomorrow in the 100 free and as our anchor in the 400 freestyle relay."
In the 400-yard individual medley, junior Eric Wang placed 16th nationally in 4:08.26 to secure Honorable Mention All-America honors.
Also competing Friday morning for NYU, Thornton took 23rd in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.86 seconds) and Hogan finished 39th in the 200 freestyle (1:44.73).
